Vic Kirby was born in England. His father and other relatives worked for Kodak, and he became fascinated with photography at an early age after receiving his first “Kodak Brownie” camera as a birthday gift. He remembers vividly working with his late father in the staff darkrooms at Kodak, making images appear, as if by magic, from paper and chemicals.
After adventures with all types of film cameras, from an early Pentax, through Hassleblad and Rollei medium format, to Contax 35mm, Vic now shoots exclusively in digital format. His subjects range widely, but he always looks for the unfamiliar and beautiful in even the most routine and banal subjects.
Vic moved to Canada in 1985, and set up a winter home in Baja with his wife, Diane Knight, in 1996. In 2008, he reduced his involvement with his work in management consulting, to devote more time to his passion for photography.
