Over 90 people came out last night (Jan 7th) to enjoy the opening reception for the "New Artists" show at Visions Gallery at Cafelix Coffee & Kitchen. In addition to viewing the show and meeting the artists, attendees enjoyed live music provided by Chris Paulson, and the combination of flautas, catered by Landi's, and rum punch. Margy Woodall, C. Riva-Maris, Vic Kirby and Barbara Holman, who are the new artists represented by Visions and whose work is now on display in the main gallery, were at the opening and would like to thank those attending for making this another great art event for Todos Santos.

Margy Woodall works in both oils and pastels and is well known in the area for her lush color and loose handling of her media suggesting a strong influence by the Impressionists. Her scenes of everyday Baja activities such as agriculture and romantic views of Todos Santos and Pescadero grace many homes. Margy also creates paintings of religious icons which reflect her deep faith.
C. Riva-Maris is a talented multi-media painter who spent many years creating works of art in the fantasy genre. Her highly detailed paintings and prints of animals and plantlife are highly sought after. She works in watercolor, oils, acrylics, crayon, pastels and is a highly skilled computer artist as well. In addition she works with ceramics and sculpture.
Vic Kirby can often be seen around Todos Santos with a camera in his hands, or at least, nearby. His sensitive viewpoint gives added life to his photos which include landscapes, seascapes and people. With an unerring touch for dramatic angles and just the right viewpoint, each photo is truly a masterpiece of tone, color and composition.
Ever since her husband gave her a camera to take on vacation many years ago, Barbara Holman has had a passion for recording what she sees wherever she goes. With an eye for the abstract qualities of a scene she shoots hundreds of images to secure the exact moment when the camera image and her response are in complete harmony with each other. Be sure to see her dynamic color prints on metal plates.
The new artists show is open every day from 8AM to 9PM at Cafelix Coffee & Kitchen on Calle Juarez between DeLeon and Hidalgo. Any of the Baristas can help you if you wish to purchase a piece from the show. The show will close on February 1, 2010.
