Ceramic project from last TS workshopThe next "Meet the Artist" Speaker Series talk, on Thursday, January 28 will be given by acclaimed mosaic artist Donna Billick. She will be talking about the "Heaven on Earth" Workshop and the mosaics that have been developed on her "Todos Artes" property. The talk will begin at 5:30pm and, unlike the others in the series, will be at her Todos Artes Compound located next to Georges Taco On Colegio Militar; the green building next to the old Post Office, so that she can demonstrate examples of work and some videos on past workshops. You can meet us there, or meet us at our base location, Cafelix,  by 5:15 (and enjoy one of his coffees or a beer) and we will all walk the few blocks to her house.

Donna Billick is owner of Billick Rock Art and co-founder of Art/Science Fusion Program at the University of Davis.

Early attendees at the openingOver 90 people came out last night (Jan 7th) to enjoy the opening reception for the "New Artists" show at Visions Gallery at Cafelix Coffee & Kitchen.  In addition to viewing the show and meeting the artists, attendees enjoyed live music provided by Chris Paulson, and the combination of flautas, catered by Landi's, and rum punch.  Margy Woodall, C. Riva-Maris, Vic Kirby and Barbara Holman, who are the new artists represented by Visions and whose work is now on display in the main gallery, were at the opening and would like to thank those attending for making this another great art event for Todos Santos.

Vic's talk. Photo by Tom Ireton (thanks!)About 45 people turned up for the first "Meet The Artist" talk of the season on January 14th. Photographer and writer Vic Kirby gave a well-received presentation on how he came to be a photographer,  his philosophies about picture taking, and perspectives on the impact of digital technology on photography.

Slides that formed the basis of his talk are available through the "Resources / Article and Talk Transcripts" menu item.

After the session, many moved across the road to visit the Grand Opening of Galeria Catalina, along with other shops in "Casa Blanca", where they enjoyed dessert, Jamaica or Coffee with Khalua and whipped cream, viewed the new art on display there, and listened to the music of Chris Paulson.  At the end of the evening, several even celebrated the night by breaking into dance!

The Artists at the Reception

The opening reception for the ARTS Small Works Show was a great success last night, with over 65 people attending (many stopping by before attending the "Dancing under the Stars" benefit for the "Youth in Video" program).  Attendees were treated to festive punch and a selection of home made holiday cookies.  6 original art pieces were sold at the event - but there are still plenty more left for you to fill your Holiday gift needs, all at $150 or less, so come on down to see the show at Visions Gallery at Cafelix on Juarez.  It continues until the end of December.
