Wendy FaithThe last "meet the Artist" talk of the 2010 / 2011 season featured Wendy Faith, a long-time resident of Todos Santos who is an accomplished artist in many modes of glass work.  Wendy described her love for the medium and the unique challenges it presents for an artist.  There are no "do-overs" if you make a mistake, for example!  Wendy showed the audience one of her favorite 3 dimensional pieces and explained how it evolved through the creation process.  You can see the piece in question in the accompanying photo.

Eric OchoaSunday March 20th in Todos Santos was an art-filled day! Visitors from Los Cabos, La Paz, Mulege and our local community ventured to as many art studios as they could fit in the span of 7 hours. Each artist had an average of 70 -100 visitors.  We heard repeatedly from our visitors "Thank you for creating this opportunity for us to come and see art". We could not have done it without the dedication of organizers Gloria Santoyo Ruenitz and Steve Thurston, the participation of the 27 artists in the tour, ARTS (Artists of Todos Santos) as facilitators, Got Baja's Cecilia & Enrique, creators of our Studios Map, Cafelix as our base camp, our volunteers, Carolyn, Joy, Maryann, Gail, Anne, Peter, Les, Karin, Nancy, Rebecca, Mir, Glenda, Mike and Tom. The 16 participating restaurants, Baja Western Onion, Cabo Mil, Gringo Gazette, Mike Brozda and other publications for PR, Fernando Salas (Cable Mágico) for video taping and George Ruenitz for photographing the event. ARTS donated $12,680 pesos from the tour to the Children's Art Program of the Palapa Society.

Donations totaling $1,212 pesos from the Meet the Artist Talks were also given to the Palapa Society for their Children's Art Program.

Catherine WallA capacity crowd of almost 50 (the "usual suspects" as Catherine related) turned up on Thursday at Cafelix to hear Catherine Wall talk about her work.  Catherine regaled the listeners with explanations of two of her "Alchemy Tree" series collages, and her experiences in Todos Santos.  Catherine used to rent what is now Cafelix as her house and studio, before moving into her current downtown location.

Catherine will be one of the artists on the 2nd Annual Artist Studio tour in March, and visitors will be able to see another one of the "Alchemy Tree" series in progress.

Arturo at his talkA small but enthusiastic group of artists and art appreciators braved the cool weather to listen to Arturo Mendoza Elfeo this past Thursday evening at Cafelix.  At the young age of 29, Arturo has been an artist since he could hold a pencil and a professional artist for the last 15 years.  He captivated the audience with his passion and vision that started at his grandmothers kitchen table in Taxco.  Arturo's work can be found at Galeria 'a' on the corner of Centenario and Hidalgo.
