"When a particular image captures my emotions, I seek to replicate it with the camera. The hunt is part of the joy in capturing the photograph. I also possess a certain free association that is inspired by the work of other artists."
Sacramento State College, now California State University Sacramento, is where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Sciences, with a concentration in History. My career has been in family services as an advocate for children and seniors.
Roger and I met in Santa Cruz in 1970, and our daughter, Terra Liana, was born seven years later. During the late 1980s we drove down the Baja California peninsula and arrived in Todos Santos looking for a wave. However we were diverted by the real estate frenzy in Todos Santos at that time. One year later we purchased La Lomita in Barrio Calera.
My background in photography began thirty-two years ago when I was pregnant with our daughter. A mentor friend invited me to attend a photography workshop in Carmel. The assignment, photograph those images that evoke the work of a famous artist.
Shortly before, I had discovered the power of Georgia O’Keefe’s work. Using a Minolta 35mm I photographed in the style of her paintings. Flowers and succulents, rocks, and bones, the soft lines of California’s coastal hills, were all my subjects. In her published letters O’Keefe writes that the light emanating from the perimeters of a subject is where the painting begins.
